I made a career change in April 2018 to improve my work-life balance. With relevant skills from previous roles, I became a mortgage and protection consultant helping clients with all areas of mortgage planning, from first-time buyers all the way through to limited company portfolio landlords.
Although I enjoyed helping my clients with their mortgage and protection needs, my goal had always been to become a regulated financial planner. Finally, after nearly 3 years of training and exams, I passed my last qualification in January 2021.
I met Tom as a mortgage broker working together helping the same clients on a couple of occasions. I always felt we shared a similar ethos, building strong relationships with our clients and putting them first. I had also been impressed with Christopher Little & Co’s processes and their modern way of working, so, following my qualification in 2021, when Tom asked me to join the team it felt like the perfect fit.
Day to day is spent mostly speaking to and meeting with clients, understanding their needs and creating robust financial plans.
When I am not working with my clients I continue my professional development, improving my expertise and staying up to date with changes in legislation.
Currently, I would consider myself as a financial planner specialising in mortgages and financial protection.
When I'm not at work
My wife Hayley and I have two young children, Max and Molly, born January 2020 and August 2021. So free time is very limited!
After the pandemic, we do as much as we can as a family, and by this I also mean with our parents and siblings, and not just for childcare support!
We always try to get out and about on a weekend, keeping our eldest as busy as we can. As members at Harewood House, we find ourselves going there quite a bit.

Favourite sport to play and watch?
Before having children, I would play golf and was a member at Moor Allerton with my father-in-law and some friends – it's something I hope to pick up again in a few years. Sport to watch would be football. I very rarely miss a Leeds game, and have a couple of treasured signed shirts in my home office.
02
What would your Karaoke song of choice be?
I have never done Karaoke before, and normally the music I enjoy isn't a choice. I guess it would have to be something by my Dad's favourite artist, Rod Stewart, as I know all his old songs.
03
Which celebrity would you most like to meet up for a coffee / beer with?
I would like to meet up with Dallas Green – he is a singer songwriter and I really enjoy his music. We also share a birthday.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?
That would have to be something to do with Leeds United, maybe chairman/owner for the day where we had a big game.
05
Who was your favourite teacher at school and why?
My favourite teacher wasn't from school, it was somebody called Steve Davis; he helped me with my diploma in financial planning. He was brilliant at bringing the textbooks to life and somehow made them fun.
06
What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
When I was 19, I raised some money for Comic Relief. I was working in a pub and the landlady talked me into doing a week-long outdoor sofa-sit. It snowed. However, I managed to raise £5,000 and ended up meeting Chris Moyles and speaking on BBC Radio 1!
07
Where’s your favourite place you’ve ever visited?
This is a hard one, but we had a really special honeymoon in the Caribbean – snorkelling in the clear ocean was a highlight.
